Neva
Brand History & Overview[edit]
Neva (Russian: Нева) is a Soviet and Russian brand of domestic flatbed knitting machines manufactured in Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) by the Karl Marx Leningrad Machine-Building Association (Russian: Ленинградское машиностроительное объединение имени Карла Маркса, abbreviated LMO).[1]
Introduced in the late 1960s, Neva machines became the most widely owned home knitting appliances in the Soviet Union. Following the reorganization of Soviet state enterprises, the plant was later operated under the Vulkan Production Association (PA Vulkan).[2] Machines manufactured before 1992 are highly regarded for their all-metal build quality and compliance with Soviet state quality control standards, whereas later post-Soviet productions in the mid-1990s introduced cheaper plastic parts to cut costs.[2]
