The Passap Duomatic 5 (affectionately known to collectors as "The Pinkie" or the "Duomatic Pink" due to its pastel pink frame and carriage covers) is a Swiss-engineered double-bed knitting machine manufactured by Madag (Passap) starting in 1960.[1] [2] It served as the direct mechanical predecessor to the highly popular Passap Duomatic 80.
Design & Weightless Knitting[edit]
Like all Duomatic models, the Duomatic 5 utilizes Passap's weightless knitting system:
- Integrated Double Bed: Features front and back needle beds permanently mounted in the metal frame.
- Strippers: Uses plastic strippers to push fabric down, eliminating the need for cast-on combs or weights.
- Needle Selection: Patterning is controlled by pushers on the front bed. The carriages (locks) feature dial settings (N, CX, DX, EX, GX) to control stitch formation.
- Duomatic S Comparison: The Duomatic 5 featured an updated chassis, improved guide rail tracking, and redesigned lock carriages compared to the earlier Duomatic S series.

- Deco Unit: Can be upgraded with the Passap Deco punchcard reader unit for 40-stitch patterning.
