Thank you for your interest in contributing to the Machine Knitting Wiki! This guide will help you get started and understand our community's editing guidelines.

Moderation & Pending Edits

To maintain a safe and accurate resource, this wiki uses the Approved Revs moderation system:

• Mod Review Required: When you create a new page or edit an existing one, your changes are saved immediately but will not be visible to default public visitors until they are reviewed and approved by a wiki administrator.
• Review Time: Edits are typically reviewed within 24–48 hours. You can view all pending changes in Special:RecentChanges.

What to Contribute

We welcome contributions on a wide range of topics, including:

• Technical specifications and compatibility for knitting machines
• Illustrated guides for cast-ons, bind-offs, and stitch patterning
• Troubleshooting checklists and carriage maintenance guides
• Contact details for active, local machine knitting guilds

What not to Contribute

We do not allow promotional links to paid commercial services or resources. This helps prevent spam and maintains a neutral point of view.

Exceptions are made only for non-profit local guilds that charge nominal member dues. We do not permit links to:

• Patreon pages or paid course platforms
• Online retail shops or commercial repair technicians
• Closed, paid-membership communities
• Proprietary after-market software/hardware that is not open-source

Formatting and Style Rules

To maintain page quality and avoid parsing issues, please follow these wikitext standards:

1. Use Correct Headings and Lists

• Always put a newline before and after headings (e.g. `== Heading ==`) and list items (`*` or `#`). Do not write them on a single continuous line, as this breaks the wiki parser.

2. Use Proper Citations

• Support your facts by adding references. Enclose citations in `` tags, and ensure the page has a references list at the bottom:

3. Editing Cheatsheet

• Internal Links: Use `Page Name` or `Displayed Text`.
• External Links: Use `Link Label`.
• Files and Images: Logged-in accounts can upload files via Special:Upload (note: file uploads are protected by a captcha to prevent spam). Embed them using `
