The Brother KRC-1000E (often referred to simply as the KRC-1000) is a high-end 6-color double-bed color changer accessory designed for standard and bulky gauge Brother knitting machines.[1]
Unlike earlier 4-color changers like the Brother KRC-830 and Brother KRC-900, which require the knitter to manually press buttons on the unit to select the next yarn color on every pass of the carriage, the KRC-1000E features a mechanical automatic 2-color changer mechanism. When set up with two active yarn hooks, the carriage automatically toggles between the two colors on each pass, which is ideal for double-bed jacquard and striped patterns.
Key Features
- 6-Color Capacity: Can hold up to six yarn colors simultaneously on a dedicated double tension mast (included with the unit), allowing for complex multi-color patterns without manual rethreading.
- Automatic 2-Color Alternating: Switches automatically between two pre-selected yarn positions (using the active B and C hook slots) with every pass of the carriage.
- Dual Gauge Compatibility: Can be adjusted for standard gauge (4.5mm) and bulky gauge (9.0mm) machines by altering the setting plate position on the underside of the arm.
- Electronic Integration: Designed to integrate electronically with the Brother KH-970 system console, enabling fully programmed automatic color changing for all 6 colors. On other electronic or punchcard machines, it functions as a manual 6-color changer or an automatic 2-color changer.
Setup and Installation
- Alignment: Must be securely mounted to the ribber connecting arm on the right side of the machine. The setting plate underneath the arm must be aligned according to the gauge of the machine (standard 4.5mm vs bulky 9mm).
- Fine Knitting Bar: Always insert the fine knitting bar behind the gate pegs on the main bed to prevent stitches from bunching up.
- Yarn Selection: Smooth coned yarns are highly recommended. Position yarns 1 and 2 in active hooks for automatic alternation.
- Sinker Plate: The accessory includes a dedicated yarn feeder/sinker plate arm which replaces the standard ribber arm.
