The New Zealand Auto Knitter (NZAK) is a modern, hand-cranked domestic circular sock machine manufactured by New Zealand Auto Knitter Ltd. in Hokitika, New Zealand.[1] Based in the *Sock World Hokitika* center, the company has produced nearly 6,000 machines since its founding in approximately 2000.[2]
Design and Operation
The NZAK is heavily inspired by the mechanics of the classic British Beehive circular sock knitter. It features a robust metal construction and is popular due to its extensive documentation and compatibility with vintage Legare-style needles.

Company History
The company was founded and originally owned by Jacquie Grant. In June 2026, Ms. Grant announced her retirement and sold the company to long-time employee Del, who continues manufacturing and supporting the machines in Hokitika.[2]
