The Dubied MR is a professional manual V-bed flat knitting machine. It is an evolved version of the Dubied NH, featuring several mechanical improvements designed to increase production speed and ease of use for the operator. The "MR" is widely considered the peak of Dubied's manual rib machine engineering before the company pivoted toward semi-automatic and electronic models.[1]
Comparison to the NH[edit]
While the NH and MR share the same heavy cast-iron bed architecture, the MR introduced several key upgrades:
- Refined Carriage Cams: The MR carriage features "easy-set" levers for tuck and slip stitches, allowing the operator to switch between textures with more tactile precision than the older NH model.
- Improved Sinker System: The sinker mechanics on the MR were redesigned to handle a wider variety of yarn counts more reliably, reducing "drop stitches" during high-speed manual operation.
- Ergonomics: The carriage handle and lever placements were optimized to reduce repetitive strain for factory workers who operated these machines for 8–10 hours a day.
Key Features[edit]
- 2-Track System: Like the NH, it utilizes a 2-track cam system, making it ideal for 1x1 rib, 2x2 rib, full-milano, and circular tubular knitting.
- Swiss Precision: The hardened steel needle beds are manufactured to the legendary Dubied standard, ensuring that a "10-cut" MR produces perfectly consistent fabric across decades of use.
- Interchangeable Parts: Many needles and small components are interchangeable with the NH, making the MR relatively easy to maintain using vintage "donor" machines.
Technical Specifications[edit]
- Gauge: E-gauge (needles per French inch).
- Pitch: Variable by "cut" (e.g., 10-cut = 2.5mm approx).
- Carriage: Manual, typically equipped with a dual-yarn feeder system.
Maintenance[edit]
- Flushing the Cams: Because the MR features more refined lever tolerances than the NH, it is even more susceptible to "gumming" from old oil.
- Sponge/Spring Bar: Unlike domestic machines, Dubieds use a steel "spring" or wire system to retain needles; ensuring this is clean and unbent is critical for smooth carriage travel.[2]
