The Brother KH 230 is a 9mm bulky gauge manual knitting machine. Known for its simplicity and extreme durability, it lacks a punchcard or electronic patterning system, requiring manual needle manipulation for all textured or multi-color work.[1]

- 9mm Bulky Gauge: The standard "bulky" spacing, designed to handle heavy worsted, aran, and chunky yarns that would jam a standard gauge machine.
- Manual Patterning: The carriage does not select needles automatically. Patterns like tuck, slip, or fair isle are achieved by manually pulling needles forward into the "E" (holding) position.
- Metal Bed Construction: Unlike later plastic hobby machines, the KH 230 features a rigid metal bed and a heavy-duty carriage, making it capable of handling thick, tension-heavy fabrics.
- Ribber Compatibility: It is designed to work with the Brother KR 230 ribber, allowing for full 1x1 or 2x2 bulky ribbing.[2]

Maintenance[edit]
