The Brother KH-810 is a standard gauge (4.5mm) metal-bed knitting machine. It is a direct evolution of the Brother KH-801, maintaining the 24-stitch punch card standard while featuring improved carriage shielding and more robust internal selection drums.[1]
Comparison to KH-801[edit]
While the KH-810 shares many parts with its predecessor, it introduced subtle ergonomics changes to the carriage handle and the card-reading mechanism. It remains compatible with all standard 24-stitch Brother punch cards. It is often found bundled in service manuals with the KH-820 due to their near-identical internal mechanics.[2]
Key Features[edit]
- 24-Stitch Punch Card: Standard Brother format. Supports tuck, slip, fair isle, and weaving.
- Sinker Posts: Integrated steel gate pegs for fabric tension.
- Lace Carriage: Typically included as a standard accessory, requiring manual passes for transfer and knitting.
- Simplified Controls: Features the classic Brother "KC" (Knit Carriage) knob with settings for plain, pattern, and motif knitting.
Technical Specifications[edit]
- Gauge: 4.5mm (Standard)
- Patterning Width: 24 stitches
- Needle Count: 200
- Construction: Heavy-duty metal bed with cream/beige plastic casing.
Maintenance[edit]
- Drum Cleaning: The selection drums (the gear-like wheels on the underside of the carriage) are prone to "seizing" if the original 1970s oil has polymerized. Cleaning with a degreaser is often required for machines that have been in storage.[3]
- Sponge Bar: Uses a standard Brother 4.5mm needle retaining bar.
