The Brother KH 210 is a bulky gauge (9mm) manual knitting machine. Unlike its successors, it has no built-in patterning mechanism (no buttons or punchcards). It is designed for straightforward knitting of heavy-weight yarns, with any patterning requiring manual needle manipulation.[1]
Operation
Because the KH 210 is a manual machine, the carriage does not feature a patterning drum.
- Manual Patterning: To create textures like tuck or slip stitch, the knitter must manually pull specific needles forward into the "E" (Holding) or "D" position according to a chart.
- Simplicity: The lack of a patterning mechanism makes the carriage lighter and the machine significantly easier to maintain than the complex punchcard models.
- Ideal Use: It is best suited for plain bulky knits, ribbed fabrics (when paired with a ribber), or as a "workhorse" for hand-manipulated lace and cables.
Key Features
- 9mm Bulky Gauge: Built to handle thick wool, chunky acrylics, and heavy roving yarns.
- 110 Needles: A standard width for bulky machines of this era, providing enough room for large sweaters.
- Metal Bed: Extremely robust all-metal construction, typical of 1970s Brother engineering.
Technical Specifications
- Gauge: 9.0mm (Bulky)
- Needles: 110
- Patterning: None (Manual)
- Pitch: 9mm
Maintenance
- Sponge Bar: As with all Brother machines, a fresh bulky-gauge sponge bar is essential.
- Lubrication: Because there are no complex selection gears, maintenance is limited to keeping the needle bed and carriage tracks clean and lightly oiled with high-quality sewing machine oil.
