The Brother KH 210 is a bulky gauge (9mm) knitting machine designed for heavy-weight and chunky yarns. It is distinguished by its use of a 12-stitch punch card patterning mechanism, a feature it shares with the standard gauge Brother KH 800.[1]
Features
- 9mm Bulky Gauge: The wide needle spacing allows for the use of bulky, aran, and some roving-style yarns that cannot be processed on standard gauge machines.
- 12-Stitch Patterning: Uses the early 12-stitch punch card system. While this provides automatic selection for tuck, slip, and fair isle, the cards are not compatible with the later 24-stitch standard found on the KH 260.
- Metal Needle Bed: Features 110 heavy-duty needles. Like other machines of this era, the bed is built with high-quality steel and lacks the plastic components found in later hobbyist bulky models.[2]
- Manual Lace: While a lace carriage exists for this model, it is a manual transfer carriage, meaning the knitter must engage with the patterning system more actively than on later "fashion lace" models.
Technical Specifications
- Gauge: 9mm (Bulky)
- Needles: 110
- Patterning Width: 12 stitches
- Pitch: 9mm
Maintenance
- Card Reader Cleaning: Similar to the KH 800, the 12-stitch reader mechanism is prone to seizing due to old oil. If the card does not advance or needles do not select, a flush with an electronics-safe degreaser is often required.
- Sponge Bar: Requires a bulky-specific sponge bar. Using a standard gauge sponge bar will not provide enough pressure to hold the larger bulky needles in place.[3]
